T.I. announces the final album “Kill The King” in the “What It’s Come To” video.
Is this the end of an era for T.I. or the start of a new one? Following an online feud with former acquaintance Sabrina Peterson, the Atlanta rapper and activist has been the subject of intense scrutiny for months. Peterson levelled accusations against T.I. and his wife Tiny, which have now escalated into full-fledged se*ual assault investigations into the Hip Hop duo. T.I. has been dealing with a lot of issues in his personal life after an online spat with former friend Sabrina Peterson, who accused Tip and his wife Tiny of se*ual assault. T.I. and Tiny denied all the allegations and now they will fight for this in court, which he also addressed in his recently released song called “What It’s Come To“. Today, T.I. returns with the music video for the single in which he also announced his final album “Kill The King“.
T.I. followed up with the release of his tenth studio album, Dime Trap, the following year. He’ll release The L.I.B.R.A. in 2020, which means Kill the King will be his third and last effort since 2017. The song “What It’s Come To,” which was released as a single to promote the album, deals with charges against him and his wife Tiny, who also appears in the video.
“Tell the truth about me,” she says in the clip as laughter erupts in the background. “Tell the truth and apologize, and I’m gone. Here’s the other stipulation — do it within seven days. Within seven days, tell the truth, apologize and I’m gone.” The words “A toxic person will create drama and then portray themself as the victim” ascribed to Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist Syreeta Butler, appear on the screen.
At the end of the “What It’s Come To” music video, it quotes “Kill The King the final album coming soon.”
The video begins with a lady imitating Peterson’s voiceover demand for an apology, while the film itself depicts a woman known as “the parasite” attempting to enlist others in her scheme to assassinate T.I. Cover image and the phrase “Kill The King, the final album coming soon” are seen at the end of the video. We find it difficult to believe that T.I. is retiring at this point in the game, but given what he and his family are going through, particularly in the court of public opinion, a break may be necessary.
T.I. reveals the last album “Kill The King” in the video for “What It’s Come To.” “I’m ready to get the hell outta here, though. I got, like, two, I got, this next album and two, I got three more albums in my head, conceptualized. Once I get them out, I’m done. [ Jeezy album? ] We’re still doing it. … [The next albums?] The next one is more like trap music. It’s Trap Muzik 2017. And the one after that, it’s gonna be more like a, uh, love as it pertains to a dope boy. And the one after that, that’s my final album. It’s called Kill the King. The last album is Kill the King. Simply because ever since my first album, I’ve put the title of ‘King of the South’ on me and to make yourself the king is to make you a target. And in chess, the object is to kill the king. So Kill the King is the title of my last album. Will they kill him or will he ride into the sunset happily ever after?”
Tip developed a video on Tuesday that used his lyrics to tie his current criminal prosecution to the FBI’s historic COINTELPRO campaign. He and his wife are shown as the subjects of a protracted inquiry in the picture. Rather than being handled by the police, this case is being led by a lady acting as one of T.I. and Tiny’s accusers, whom Tip refers to in the video as “The Parasite.”
T.I.’s tenth studio album, Dime Trap, was released the following year. He gave fans The L.I.B.R.A. last year, so Kill the King is on pace to be his third and last effort since 2017. Lil Baby, Young Thug, 24 Dugg, Jeremih, Snoop Dogg, Rapsody, Mozzy, Conway the Machine, Rick Ross, Jadakiss, Killer Mike, 21 Savage, and others performed at the L.I.B.R.A. Tip hasn’t set a release date for Kill the King yet, but “What It’s Come To” looks to be the project’s first song.
T.I. joins a long list of rappers who have announced their retirement just to resurface with a new album. Def Jam musician Logic recently announced that he was retiring from music for good, only to reemerge with a new combo named MadGic alongside star producer Madlib earlier this month.
“Big Boi cautioned me of [the title] back when I was coming onto the scene,” he said in an interview. “Big Boi said, ‘It sounds cool. I like it, but understand when you are king you put a big bullseye on your back. You can’t look for no favors. Life is a game of chess, and the name of the game is called Kill The King. That’s what you are setting yourself up for.’ [At the age] I didn’t really think much of it.”
“[DJ Drama] called me in to freestyle on a mixtape,” he said about DJ Drama’s reaction to calling himself king of the south in conversation with Snannon Sharpe. “I said King of the South in the freestyle. He kind of raised his head like, ‘Whoa! What is that? What did you say?’ I said, ‘You heard what I said.’”
