Super Bowl’s executive producer reveals JAY-Z’s involvement in picking the halftime show headliner.
There have been rumours that JAY-Z doesn’t say about picking the headliner for Super Bowl shows, and the venue city picks the entertainers every year. However, the show’s executive producer now reveals that Hov is the one who picks headliners since his link-up to the Super Bowl.
“It’s a decision that Jay makes,” says Jesse Collins, who has been executive producer of Super Bowl halftime show since 2021. “Since we’ve been on board with that show, he’s made it every year, and it’s been amazing. He’s always picked right.”
In the interview with Variety, he also showed love for Lil Wayne: “We love Wayne. There’s always Vegas odds on who’s going to get to perform it. But I think we’re going to do an amazing show with Kendrick, and I think everybody’s going to love the halftime show. I know Kendrick is going to work exceptionally hard to deliver an amazing show.”
JAY-Z recently received criticism on social media after Lil Wayne was snubbed for the Super Bowl halftime show in his hometown New Orleans, and they picked Kendrick Lamar as the sole headliner. In a rant on her X (Twitter) account, Nicki Minaj also fired shots at JAY-Z for snubbing her longtime collaborator, friend and former boss Weezy. “Go & enjoy your fkng money b4 it’s too late,” she added, seemingly shading JAY-Z. “One ni–a took a knee. The other ni–a took the bag. He gon get you “ni–ers” in line every fkng time.” “Denying a young black man what he rightfully put into this game for no other reason but your ego. Your hatred for BIRDMAN, Drake & Nicki got you punishing Lil Wayne?!?!!! LIL WAYNE!!!!!!!!!! THE GOAT?!!!!!!!!!!! Nola what’s good?!!!!!! Eminem stood firm on having 50Cent come out. A white man. Sh-t sad. House NI–ER TINGZ. but it’s GOOD FI DEM!!!!!!! No loyalty ? Welp. then ni–az will keep son’ing you!!!!!”
