The release date of “Queen” had been pushed back at least twice before she pushed it back again earlier this month owing to a sample-clearance issue, setting her up for a showdown with labelmate and collaborator Ariana Grande, whose new album arrives on the same day. That specific conflict, however, has been avoided.
In the United States, the album went to number two on the Billboard 200 with 185,000 album-equivalent units, 78,000 of which were from pure album. The album debuted behind American rapper Travis Scott’s Astroworld, which spent a second week atop the charts. Queen’s sales were boosted by a variety of merchandise/album bundles sold on Minaj’s website, as well as sales generated by a concert ticket/album sale redemption offer in conjunction with her then-upcoming co-headlining tour with Future.
