Steve Miller shows respect for Eminem over the release of “Houdini”.
Eminem made his return to music with a brand new single “Houdini“, which kicked off the campaign for his upcoming new album “The Death of Slim Shady”. The single which rocked the streaming platforms on the opening day, interpolates Steve Miller Band’s 1982 hit “Abracadabra.” The band’s lead vocalist and guitarist Steve Miller took to his social media to show respect for the Detroit rapper.
“Hey EM,” he wrote. “There is a long chain of stories, poetry, lyrics, and musical roots that have crossed cultures and generations inspiring the whole world for hundreds of years and in all those lines of thought, music, and rhythm there are special artists who take it all in and create new original ideas from their own feelings and experiences.”
He continued, “You are one of those timeless originators building something new on a long musical legacy of original artists. There aren’t many artists who take the time or make the effort to stand up for themselves and credit and respect their influencers at the same time. Marshall Mathers you are an exception and on my short list of people who respect the art. To be included in your process feels good while I’m still singing and playing the music I love. I’m Honored. Thank you, Steve Miller.”
The single did huge numbers on streaming services as it debuted at #3 on the global Spotify chart with 7.85 million streams and also debuted at #4 in the USA with 2.97 million streams. This is the biggest streaming debut of Eminem’s career on Spotify.
