Royce Da 5’9″ recalls Eminem introducing him to Dr. Dre.
Royce Da 5’9″ is one of those people who’s always beside Eminem for the past couple of decades, and he gives one of many reasons why he will always stay loyal to his “Bad Meets Evil” partner. Recently, Royce took to IG to recall a story of how he was introduced to Dr. Dre by Eminem and got signed. He reveals he was going to do a deal with Herbie Love Bug but Marshall stopped him.
“I was about to do a deal with the legendary Herbie Love Bug but Marshall found out and called me,” wrote Royce. “He said “Nah Dog, with all due respect, you ain’t boutta do a deal with no Herbie Love Bug” He played my music for Dre that same day and told him the situation. Dre must’ve agreed with him because he called my mamma crib the next day and asked would I be interested in flying out to work with them on The Chronic 2001…. My loyalty to the Whiteboy will NEVER waver and THIS is just ONE of the MANY reasons 🤞🏿… Big Shout to Herbie tho… He’s a BIG KING👑 🌹”

A few months ago, When Royce sat down with HipHopDX Hack3d for an interview, he detailed the same thing while remembering the first call from the legendary Dr. Dre.
“I just sent my demo up there to Marshall. I told Marshall that I had been to New York, and I had been taking leaps in New York. And I was entertaining the deal with Herbie Love Bug. Marshal was like, “Let me tell you something, Royce. You are not signing that deal with Herbie Love Bug”. He told me to send a CD with my music out there. He played it for Dre, but he didn’t tell me that he played it for Dre. He just called me and like, “Royce, I played Dre your stuff, he loved it, I’mma link you up so you can talk.”

That’s when Royce’s father arrived at the interview as a surprise guest and reveals thinking Dr. Dre is a real Doctor.
“I remember when I told Royce, ‘You’ve got a phone call,’ I asked him what was wrong with him,” says Royce’s father. “He’s like, ‘What do you mean?’ I said, ‘You’ve got a phone call from your doctor.’ He said, ‘The doctor?’ I said, ‘Yeah, somebody named Dr. Dre.’ By the time he got out of the shower, I heard all the slipping and sliding and falling into the toilet and on the floor trying to get to the phone. I didn’t know who Dr. Dre was and once I’d found out who Dr. Dre was I was like, okay well my son is onto something. Somebody recognizes him for what he is because, at that point, I wasn’t quite sure.”
“I caught Dr. Dre’s voice immediately,” says Royce. “He was like ‘I like your s**t man, Marshall played me your s**t, man. I wanted to see if you wanted to come out here and rock with us. We working on some stuff.’ I was just writing stuff. As much as I could. I was just excited to be in the environment. I thought he was a genius, that everything he did was classic. I walked in a Stan.”
