Rihanna to drop her first new music in 6 years this Friday.
It was recently rumoured that Rihanna is contributing to the soundtrack of Marvel’s upcoming “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever”, and it turned out to be true. Today, it is officially announced that Riri will make her return to music this week with a new song titled “Lift Me Up”, which she co-wrote with Tems, producer Ludwig Göransson, and director Ryan Coogler. This will be Rihanna’s first new music in six years.
It will be released by Rihanna’s label, Westbury Road, in collaboration with Roc Nation, Def Jam Recordings, and Hollywood Records. It’s her first new stuff since her 2016 album “Anti.”
It is reported that the single is “a tribute to the extraordinary life and legacy of Chadwick Boseman,” who starred in the first Black Panther film and passed away in 2020 at the age of 43.
“After speaking with Ryan and hearing his direction for the film and the song, I wanted to write something that portrays a warm embrace from all the people that I’ve lost in my life. I tried to imagine what it would feel like if I could sing to them now and express how much I miss them.” said Tems in a press release. “Rihanna has been an inspiration to me so hearing her convey this song is a great honor.”
She has lately worked on songs with Future (“Selfish”), N.E.R.D. (“Lemon”), DJ Khaled (“Wild Thoughts”), Kendrick Lamar (“Loyalty.”), and PartyNextDoor (“Believe It”). She also appeared in the music video for “D.M.B.” alongside her child’s father, A$AP Rocky.
