Eminem signed rapper GRIP to Shady Records.
The Shady Records label has a new family member. Earlier today, Eminem and Shady Records took to social media to announce their newest signee, East Atlanta’s GRIP. GRIP also shared a picture of himself with Eminem in the studio and captioned it with a handshake.

GRIP is been called “Atlanta’s Next Great Storyteller” and is quickly generating buzz and acclaim. He dropped his breakout project “Porch” in 2017, followed by “Snubhouse” in 2019. Then he dropped two more new projects called “Halo” and “Proboscidea“. GRIP’s lyrical music and building popularity caught the ear of Paul Rosenberg, who then introduced him to Eminem.
“Grip is the type of artist that brings you into his world and expresses himself through a complete composed body of work. If true album artists in this era are a rare breed- then Grip is a unicorn! We’re excited for him to join the Shady Records family,” says Paul Rosenberg.
“It was one of those full-circle moments because I grew up on Eminem so to have him reach out and let me know how dope my sh*t is was so cool. Excited to partner with Shady/Interscope and get the music out on a larger platform,” says GRIP.
According to their webpage, Shady Records now includes artists including Boogie, Bad Meets Evil, and Conway The Machine. Conway’s Griselda colleague Westside Gunn was previously signed but stated that he quit the company in November on a Joe Budden Podcast episode.
Conway’s Griselda bandmate Westside Gunn was previously contracted to the label, but announced his departure during a Joe Budden Podcast broadcast in November: “I’m off Shady,” Gunn told Budden. “I’m actually a free agent. It feels great. I already spoke to Paul [Rosenberg]. Everything’s good. Like, everything’s signed, sealed and delivered I have my paperwork, like I’m off Shady.”
“I’m one of those type of dudes I’m not no public talkin’ ni**a. That’s just how I move. It’s like sayin’ me and Benny or me and Conway or Conway and Benny or whoever, we might have a disagreement, but the world will never know. We still gonna be brothers and cousins. It’s the same way even with business, because at the end of the day, this a big world. Even if somebody else is a sucka, I’m never gonna play that sucka role.”
With the release of his ‘Porch’ album in 2017, the East Atlanta MC became the next rapper to join Eminem’s talented label roster, joining Boogie and Griselda’s Conway The Machine. He’s released three more albums since then: Snubnose (2019), Halo (2020), and ‘Proboscidea.’ He’s now preparing to unleash his Shady Records big label debut, which he’s teased with a new track called ‘Gutter,’ which features ‘Wara.’
Despite being in quarantine, GRIP continued to release singles and EPs, all of which were excellent, but after a brutal 2020, he was at his breaking point. Due to COVID, he missed the chance to tour with Brent Faiyaz and had life-altering label offers suddenly fall through. He said, “I feel like I get slighted left and right.” GRIP was prepared to quit up in the midst of the epidemic because he was still independent, still hungry, and still felt ignored by the harsh music business.
Then Eminem rang, and everything changed.
After signing to the label, GRIP has already released the first track called “Gutter” which will be accompanied by an official video later today. This will appear on his upcoming Shady Records debut album. Listen to the song below.
