On this day last year, Eminem performed “Lose Yourself” at the Oscars 2020.
Today marks one year to Eminem’s surprise performance of his iconic “Lose Yourself” at the Academy Awards 2020. He won the Oscar for the same track in 2003, where he couldn’t make it to accept the trophy himself. The performance was the Top Social Moment at the 92nd Academy Awards.

Backstage at the event, he was reunited with legendary Elton John and he also met Salma Hayek who spilled water all over him. “In these pictures, it might look like Eminem and I are best friends,” wrote Salma, “but what really happened is as he was walking offstage and I was getting ready to walk on stage, I was so shocked to see him that I spilled water all over him. If you examine our faces, I look mortified and he looks terrified of me- As I was trying to wipe it off I impulsively hugged him and I said “Nice to meet you Eminem- I’m a HUGE fan!” because I AM! But I was so disappointed that I made such a fool of myself in front of him… and then I read this [swipe right] in Rollingstone. Eminem, you’re the greatest.”

During his interview with Mike Tyson a month later after his performance, he revealed that something went wrong on the stage at the Oscars. “When I went out there everything was cool.” said Eminem, “I go through the first verse and they had the mic pack that you wear to clip on your belt and then you got the in-ears that go in your ears so you can hear the sound, And I’m rapping and all of a sudden I see between my legs the motherf**king pack’s swinging. What the f**k?”
“So then I try to Stick that bit*h in my and I am like no pockets back f**k so I am rapping the lyrics while I’m doing this and then I’m like let me put it in my front pocket. By that time the song is over and I’m like man, what the f*ck. We rehearsed for that sh*t, I know the words to ‘Lose Yourself’ but we rehearsed that sh*t extra, extra, extra just so we didn’t f**k that up and then that was the one thing we didn’t plan for and of course it went wrong. I was like ‘motherf**k…”.
