Carpool Karaoke returns with a new season feat. Nicki Minaj.
James Corden is back with Carpool Karaoke and his first guest is none other than Nicki Minaj. The duo cruised through Los Angeles, where they performed hits like “Starships”, “Super Bass”, most recent “Do We Have A Problem?” featuring Lil Baby. Minaj then did Adele’s impression of going viral at the recent basketball game, before performing “Someone Like You.”
The host then asked her about the balance between her confidence and her anxieties and how her career has changed with time and becoming a mother. “I think when I was younger, my more natural state was to be more confident. But I think when you’re a woman and you’re in the public eye all the time, if you’re not careful you can become less confident because you’re being constantly scrutinised. I just don’t think it’s natural. It’s not natural for a human being to feel like everyone’s critiquing them,” she said. “When I first came into the industry, I had this amazing sense of freedom because nobody gave a sh*t about what I was doing, I could get away with anything. It goes from that to the complete opposite.”
The rap artist has seldom granted interviews since giving birth to her baby in late 2020, and the Karaoke session with Corden is one of the first times she has shown a more vulnerable side of herself on camera in a long time. At a virtual news conference on Wednesday, Corden said, “We talked for a long time about anxiety and how difficult it can be being Nicki Minaj,” Corden told reporters at a virtual press conference on Wednesday. “Sometimes we can look at an artist like Nicki Minaj and think that she’s bulletproof and anything that anybody says won’t affect her. And it was quite refreshing, how open and honest she was.”
