Master P Reveals Nearly Signing Eminem, Nas & T.I.
When Master P recalls the day he was given a $1 million dollar deal by Jimmy Iovine, it’s one of the most motivating parts of the interview. As the No Limit General recalls, he’d previously had some success on his own. The Ice Cream Man CD was tucked away in its holster, ready to redefine. P was putting his foot in the water. No Limit Records Founder, New Orleans Rapper Master P sat down with HipHopDX for an Interview, where he talked about creating “Tru 2 Da Game,” his early relationship with Cash Money, and many more things. Master P is one of the successful hip-hop artists who gained fame in the late 1990s with his group TRU and solo album Ice Cream Man. In the Interview, Master P discussed the time he was offered a $1 million deal from the co-founder of Interscope Records, Jimmy Iovine. While talking about his old days, Master P reveals that everybody wanted to be signed to his No Limit Label and that he nearly signed Eminem, T.I., and Nas.
The ramifications of that choice changed the face of music entrepreneurship forever. Master P finally signed a ground-breaking distribution contract with Priority Records, launching No Limit’s brand of rawkus street songs all over the world. However, The Tank’s 75 million records sold pale in contrast to Percy Miller’s ad-libs and commercial savvy, which continue to have an unacknowledged impact on Hip Hop.
“Anybody you can think of called me for advice or thinking ‘What Can i do to get with No Limit, From Eminem to T.I. to anybody you could think of, we done had that conversation where they wanted to be with No Limit. It was sad, but (2Pac) was thinking ‘What could I do?’ Same thing with Snoop Dogg. People Started checking for us because they knew we was making money. Everybody reched out. Nas Ca,e. Everybody reched out. I did a song with Nas back then with me and Mac. I thought that was a beautiful record but Mac went to prison and we never got a chance to do a video. I might Remaked that song.”
Mac’s infamous murder conviction is discussed, as well as Soulja Slim and, of course, C-Murder. Trials, on the other hand, do not last as long as successes, inspiration, reconciliation, and hilarity. P discusses his outrage when a prepubescent Lil Romeo drove a vehicle through Kentucky Fried Chicken, his admiration for Ghetto D, his counsel for independent musicians, and his trust in God.
