Lil Wayne and H.E.R. performs at the 2023 ESPY Awards.
The 31st annual ESPY Awards took place earlier tonight at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles. The 2023 event was opened by Lil Wayne, who performed his 2008 hit “A Milli.”
H.E.R. was also among the performers as she performed her latest single “The Journey”, as a tribute to the 30th anniversary of basketball coach Jimmy Valvano’s inspirational speech at the first ESPYS in 1993 when he was terminally ill with cancer.
The three-hour show was telecasted on ABC and also featured Quavo, and Lil Dicky as presenters. Rapper Common was also among the attendees, as he narrated a segment paying tribute to Liam Hendriks, who battled back from Stage 4 non-Hodgkin lymphoma.
In his performance, the rapper named LSU’s Angel Reese, Buffalo Bills’ Damar Hamlin, Super Bowl champion Deion Sanders, NBA legend Dennis Rodman and more. “Thank you,” Lil Wayne said. “Welcome to the 2023 ESPYs. Thank you for your time, I appreciate you.”
