Lil Wayne Mourns Death Of Police Officer Who Saved Him After Attempted Suicide At 12

Police Officer who saved Lil Wayne in 1994, passed away at 65.

The former New Orleans Police Officer Robert Hoobler is found dead at his home in Jefferson Parish on Friday. The Cop was special for Lil Wayne, as he saved the rapper from attempted suicide when he was 12 years old.

Weezy was 13 when he discovered a 9mm pistol at his home on November 11 1994. The rapper went on to shoot a bullet into his chest but still was able to call 911 for help. Robert Hoobler head the incident report on the dispatcher and went there to help Wayne, who was on the floor bleeding. The former Cop picked up the young rapper himself and took him to the hospital in his own car.

“There was a bunch of black cops jumped over me when they saw me at that door, laying on the floor with that hole in my chest,” Lil Wayne revealed in an interview previously. “Those black cops jumped over me, and ran through the crib, and said, ‘We found the gun, we found this, we found that.’ He said, ‘I found this baby on this floor. I need to get to a hospital.’ He didn’t wait for an ambulance. He took his car. He made somebody drive it, and he made sure that I lived.”

Hoobler described how he talked to the youngster the whole drive to keep him awake in a 2009 interview, which was his first ever on that tragic day. After what seemed like hours, but was only a few minutes, Hoobler and the other cop placed the injured youngster on a stretcher outside a hospital, which nurses and medical professionals transported away.

Hoobler will always remember what a nurse said to him as the youngster was being transported to the emergency room: “If y’all had waited for [an ambulance],… he would have died.”

In an IG post, Wayne shared a photo of Hoobler standing in front of his old house and mentioned how he was dying when they first met at that very spot. He credited Hoobler for refusing to let him die and expressed his gratitude for everything that happened and didn’t happen for a reason. Lil Wayne also mentioned that his Aunt Kathie had been waiting for Uncle Bob and expressed his love and missing them both. “Everything happens for a reason,” he wrote. “I was dying when I met u at this very spot. U refused to let me die. Everything that doesn’t happen, doesn’t happen for a reason. That reason being you and faith. RIP uncle Bob. Aunt Kathie been waiting for u. I’ll love & miss u both and live for us all.”

It’s important to recognize the impact that Robert Hoobler had on Young Money mogul’s life and the deep gratitude that the rapper has expressed towards him. Robert’s heroic actions played a significant role in saving Wayne’s life during that difficult time.
