Kid Cudi announces “Man on the Moon 3”.
After teasing it a couple of months ago with a short video trailer titled “The Trilogy Continues“, Kid Cudi has announced his new album called “Man on the Moon 3” which is all set to release this Friday on December 11th.
He also revealed the official tracklist and the Cover Art for the album. It was created by illustrator Sam Spratt, who was hired after Cudi admired his artwork for Logic’s No Pressure album. Spratt described the artwork as a “glorified piece of marketing” that was supposed to represent Cudi’s thoughts while yet being “something that would stick out in a Spotify gallery and skew the algorithm.” It will have 18 tracks with guest appearances from Trippie Redd, Phoebe Bridgers, Pop Smoke, and Skepta.
The 18-track album was produced by Cudi and Dot da Genius, as well as Plain Pat, Emile Haynie, and Mike Dean, all of whom collaborated on the previous two Man on the Moon albums.
In its first week, Man on the Moon III: The Chosen opened at #2 on the Billboard 200, with 144,000 album-equivalent units (including 15,000 pure album sales). This was Cudi’s fifth album to reach the top ten. In the week ending December 17, 2020, the album’s tracks received a total of 167.45 million on-demand streams.
Cudi became the fifth artist in a single week to have at least that many entries on the list. Drake leads the pack with ten weeks with 18 or more submissions, followed by Lil Uzi Vert and the Weeknd with two weeks each, and Lil Wayne and Pop Smoke with one week each.
