The Project contains 18 tracks and features came up from Chance The Rapper, The Weeknd, Kendrick Lamar, Chris Brown, Frank Ocean, Rihanna, Young Thug, Kid Cudi, Ty Dolla $ign & More. The Album has released through G.O.O.D. Music with the distribution with def Jam.
“The Life of Pablo” made its debut during a listening session staged at Madison Square Garden on Thursday. West streamed the album’s debut at MSG on Tidal, however, the official release was postponed until the next day when West chose to add more tracks to the album.
After initially announcing that “The Life of Pablo” will be released on February 12 with the additional tracks, West decided to push back the release date so that he could include one final tune, “Waves,” produced by Chance The Rapper and featuring Chris Brown. Waves was also one of the album’s initial names before West settled on “TLOP,” or “The Life of Pablo,” and it even prompted a Twitter feud between West and Wiz Khalifa, which has since been resolved. The Life of Pablo is Kanye West’s eighth solo album and first significant release since 2013’s harsh Yeezus, and it was previously known as So Help Me God, SWISH, and Waves. West debuted the record at Madison Square Garden Friday afternoon at the launch of his Yeezy Season 3 fashion collection. It includes the previously released “Real Friends,” as well as high-resolution versions of “Wolves” and “Fade,” which West debuted at prior Yeezy Season unveilings throughout 2015.
The Life of Pablo was nominated for Album of the Year at the 2016 BET Hip Hop Awards. The album was nominated for Best Rap Album at the 2017 Grammy Awards, however it was defeated by Chance the Rapper’s third mixtape Coloring Book. Both “Ultralight Beam” and “Famous” were nominated for Best Rap/Sung Performance and Best Rap Song at the same event.
The Life of Pablo was poised to debut atop the US Billboard 200 after being distributed to platforms other than Tidal, according to Billboard, and had sold 90,000 album-equivalent units at the time. West’s seventh consecutive number one album in the United States, The Life of Pablo, debuted at number one and sold 94,000 album-equivalent units. Pure album sales accounted for 28,000 of The Life of Pablo’s album-equivalent units, while streaming equivalent albums accounted for 66,000 units, equating to almost 99 million streams and accounting for 70% of the units.
