Young Thug’s case Judge reads his song lyrics in court.
Young Thug continues to fight for his freedom as a new trial began this week with jury selection. A new clip from the recent hearing went viral on social media, in which the case’s Judge Ural Glanville read the explicit lyrics of Thug’s 2016 song “Slime Sh*t” which featured Yak Gotti, Duke and Peewee Roscoe.
“Hey, this that slime sh*t, hey / YSL sh*t, hey / Killin’ 12 sh*t, hey / F**k a jail sh*t, hey,” the judge dryly reads. “Cookin’ white brick, hey, hey / I’m not new to this, hey, I’m so true to this, hey I done put a whole slime on a hunnid l**ks, hey, hey / Slime or get slimed, maniac don’t have a mind / Got banana clips for all these ni**as actin’ monkey”
The Judge also went on to read out some lines from Yak Gotti’s verse. “Slime or get slimed / In the VIP and I got that pistol on my hip / You prayin’ that you live / I’m prayin’ that I hit / Hey, this that slime sh*t…F**k, f**k the police (F**k ’em), in a high speed.”
In May of last year, the New York Senate attempted to pass a bill addressing the use of rap lyrics in criminal trials, but it was not approved by the State Assembly. In response, Kevin Liles (CEO of 300 Entertainment) and Julie Greenwald (COO of Atlantic Records) launched a petition called “Rap Music on Trial: Protect Black Art,” which highlighted the way prosecutors have frequently attempted to use hip-hop lyrics as evidence in court cases.
