Joey Badass consider himself a part of the “Holy Trinity” with J. Cole and Kendrick Lamar.
Joey Badass has finally dropped his long-awaited album “2000“, his first in 5 years and a sequel to the critically acclaimed 1999 mixtape from 2012. The 15-track effort kicked off with an intro called “The Baddest” which featured assistance from Diddy.
In the first verse, the Brooklyn rapper gives himself flowers as he considers himself the greatest of this generation and a part of the “Holy Trinity”, with Kendrick Lamar and J. Cole.
“Ni**as know who greater, f**k your favorite, I’m the greatest,” he raps. “They never could degrade us and I did it with no major / I made a lane for ni**as by going my own way/I paved the way for a lot of these rappers you see today / So act like you know, bi**h, I’ve been had the flow, penetrating souls / Who the best MCs? Kenny, Joey, and Cole / The holy trinity, it’s that nine-fives in affinity / Energy knowing when I’m gone and forever remember me.”
The bar is inspired by Jay-Z’s 1997’s “In My Lifetime, Vol. 1” track “Where I’m From” in which he rapped: “Who’s the best MCs? Biggie, JAY-Z or Nas?”
