Dr. Dre and former Interscope Records boss Jimmy Iovine start a new Academy for Arts, Technology and the Business of Innovation at the University of Southern California.
USC announced that With a visionary gift from music industry leaders Jimmy Iovine and Andre Young aka Dr.Dre, the University of Southern California is establishing a new academy to inspire innovative, entrepreneurial thought in business, design, marketing and the arts.
Dr.Dre recently sold his “Beats By Dre” shares to Apple and made billions in the process, Dre and his partner Jimmy Iovine have used some of that money to help put others in a position to possibly achieve the success they’ve already attained. The two recently founded the Jimmy Iovine and Andre Young Academy for Arts, Technology, and the Business of Innovation at the University of Southern California. The school was founded on a $70 million Finance given to them by Dr. Dre and Jimmy Iovine last year.
Conceived as a collaborative environment that brings multidisciplinary students, instructors and professional mentors together, the USC Jimmy Iovine and Andre Young Academy for Arts, Technology and the Business of Innovation will be a transformational presence on one of the nation’s most dynamic university campuses.
The focus is on invention and conceptual thinking, drawing on the talents and influences of leaders from across industries to empower the next generation of disruptive inventors and professional thought leaders across a multitude of global industries.
The program accepts around 25-30 students per year and its inaugural class is already halfway through the first semester. Courses offered at the college include computer science, audio production and graphic design, among others.
