Jadakiss Says He Hated Ghostwriting For Diddy He Had Too Much Money

Jadakiss recalls writing songs for Diddy.

Before Jadakiss became one of the top emcees, the LOX rapper used to write rhymes for others artists, especially the Bad Boy mogul Diddy. However, the Yonkers rapper hated ghostwriting for Diddy, he revealed on Smoke DZA’s The Personal Party Podcast.

“I really hated it,” he said at the 38:38 mark of the interview. “Puff, after giving him ‘[It’s All About] The Benjamins,’ ‘Senorita,’ ‘Victory,’ a couple remixes, I used to feel like it was taking away too much from me. I ain’t know how to morph. It ain’t like he a ni**a that I knew my whole life that I can just scribe him how I think he should be.”

He continued, “I ain’t feel like I could write the bars for myself and give it to him, because I ain’t feel like it fit him. He had too much money. I was still extra grungy. My mind couldn’t think of that much Versace or being on that type of financial level. It used to conflict with me writing for him. But he just used to tell me, ‘Give me the sh*t that you would say for you.’ I’m like, ‘It ain’t gon’ fit for you.’ He used to know how to make it work.”

Jadakiss had not yet put out a solo debut album or a full-length project with The LOX when he started writing songs for Diddy. Before contributing to Diddy’s 1997 first album as Puff Daddy, No Way Out, he signed to Diddy’s Bad Boy Records in 1994 and had a handful of celebrity appearances. The next year, The LOX issued their first album, Money, Power & Respect.
