Jack Harlow praises Eminem, calls out the new generation that slanders him.
Jack Harlow recently appeared on Pitchfork’s Overrated/Underrated latest episode where among other things, he was asked about an artist who he thinks is underrated. Then Jack Harlow praises Eminem and also calls out the new generation than slender him.
“These days? Underrated. Eminem’s catching a lot of slander from the new generation,” says Jack Harlow. “I think they don’t have the context of what he was. Truly an icon. When I was 9 through 13, that’s really who I wanted to be. I used to watch 8 Mile, and I’ll watch the scene of him in the warehouse and just get off. That movie and the freestyles at the end, I knew the lyrics to all of them. I love Eminem. And I don’t like the new slander. I don’t like the new wave that slanders him.”

The Kentucky artist is hugely influenced by and showed his love for the Detroit Rapper on several occasions. Last year, he goes undercover on Twitter and answered a question about Eminem, if he’s true to the culture, or is he a vulture. “True to the culture,” said Jack. “I grew up listening to Eminem. I idolized Eminem, a big influence of mine while growing up. I mean he’s so dope. But also obviously… I remember when I was ten or eleven, I would wear a toboggan, and hoodie, and headphones around my neck. Cause I wanted to feel like him. I definitely had an Eminem phase feeling like wow, just that Caucasian connection, you know. It’s strong.”
Harlow partnered with Eminem on the remix to Eminem’s “Killer” earlier this year, which also included North Carolina rapper Cordae. ‘Music to Be Murdered By – Side B,’ the extended deluxe edition of last year’s ‘Music to Be Murdered By,’ featured the original version of the song.
Harlow, who has yet to meet his hero Eminem, claimed on the red carpet at the MTV VMAs on Sunday (September 12) that he chatted with the 8 Mile rapper on the phone. “We didn’t get to meet, but we had a phone call that meant the world to me,” he told Billboard. “I haven’t shared it with the world yet, but I can’t wait until the world hears it. He gave me a lot of props that any artist would love to get.” He continued: “Sometimes, the best gem is just somebody you admire, letting you know who you think you are. He let me know, ‘You’re that. You’re dope.’ I’ve waited a decade to hear that. So it was special.”
Recently, he also starred alongside Pete Davidson on a parody of Eminem’s “Without Me” on SNL.
