J. Cole shouts out 21 Savage at Dreamville Festival.
The 64th annual Grammy Awards took place on Sunday night in Las Vegas. Many of the rappers were absent at the event, which includes Kanye West, Drake, Nicki Minaj, J. Cole and others. J. Cole was nominated in four categories, Best Rap Album for “The Off-Season“, Best Melodic Rap Performance for “Pride is the Devil” with Lil Baby, Best Rap Performance and Best Rap Song for “My Life” with 21 Savage and Morray.
The 37-year-old failed to win any award at the event, but he addressed his first and only Grammy win at the Dreamville Festival in Raleigh, North Carolina. In his career, the Dreamville boss only won a Grammy for his collaboration “A Lot” with 21 Savage, off “i am > i was” album.
“Y’all make some noise for 21 Savage,” he said. “He got a ni**a his first — the only Grammy I ever won was because of this ni**a 21 Savage.”
Cole went on to say that he’d learned to seek validation elsewhere. “I went through a lot of heart break the first half of my career, maybe even longer, cuz deep down I needed that validation that I thought the awards could bring,” he said, before sharing a quote that read, “My heart is at ease knowing that what was meant for me will never miss me, and that what misses me was never meant for me.”
