J. Cole Earns Monumental Billboard Milestone With 2014 Forest Hills Drive Album

J. Cole’s “2014 Forest Hills Drive” is now the 5th longest-charting rap album on Billboard.

J. Cole has now reached another milestone with his classic “2014 Forest Hills Drive” album. Jermaine’s third studio album has now spent over 400 weeks on the Billboard Charts since its release in 2014 and has never left the chart. The project now becomes the 5th longest-charting hip-hop album of all time.

The album dropped on December 9, 2014, through ByStorm Entertainment, Columbia Records, Dreamville Records and Roc Nation. The project debuted at number one on the US Billboard 200, selling 353,000 copies in its first week. It received album of the year at the 2015 BET Hip Hop Awards and Top Rap Album at the 2015 Billboard Music Awards. It was nominated for Best Rap Album at the 2016 Grammy Awards, with the single “Apparently” earning a nomination for Best Rap Performance.

In an interview with Complex, Cole discussed the album’s concept: That’s exactly what it is. It’s crazy that I chose to record it in Hollywood because it’s such a “f**k Hollywood” album. Being out there maybe contributed to [me thinking], “I’m bugging. There’s some s**t that’s way more important than how many albums I sell and if I’m the best.”
