Hopsin reacts to a question about Eminem collaboration.
A collaboration between Eminem and Hopsin has never happened, even after the latter being hugely influenced by the Detroit rapper. The fans wanted the two rappers on a joint, ever since Eminem shouts out Hopsin on his 2018 Kamikaze song “Fall“. Hopsin has always praised the Detroit Rapper and last year he said that there is no Hopsin without Eminem.
Hopsin was taken aback when he discovered the song’s reference, in which Eminem raps: “I belong here, clown, don’t tell me ’bout the culture. I inspire the Hopsins, the Logics, the Coles, the Seans, the K-Dots, the 5’9″s…”
Hopsin couldn’t contain his joy in a video posted on his social media accounts: ”Yo, craziest s**t just f**king happened. Eminem just said my name on his god damn song on his new album. This s**t is crazy! I did not even know he knew who the f**k I was! God damn, he said do not tell him about the culture, implying I am part of the culture! I gotta call my mom!” The next year, Hopsin collaborated with D12’s Bizarre on a song called “Leatherface,” which also features Lazarus and King Gory, and fans have been waiting for the Eminem duet ever since.
He responded with another tweet, this time stating, “Eminem is one of the best rappers of all time, there is no doubt. I have and will respect that. Tho, this is not the time to criticize the youth, it’s the time to listen. To act. It is certainly not the time for slurs. Wish they would have listened when we asked them to change it.”
Hopsin’s rap style has been compared to Eminem’s by many fans. Hopsin, on the other hand, has already said how Eminem has influenced his music. The rapper from Los Angeles has even expressed interest in working with the “Lose Yourself” hitmaker. “He’s in the place now that he’s doing what he wants to do because he’s literally [the] biggest f***ing rapper in the world,” Hopsin told REAL 92.3 in 2017. “He has been the rawest rapper in the world. Everything these MCs are trying to do he has done it. Touched all this people’s hearts already.”
Hopsin began his career with Ruthless Records in 2007, but in 2009, he launched his own label, Funk Volume. In 2016, he launched Undercover Prodigy, his second label. Knock Madness and Gazing at the Moonlight are two of Hopsin’s five studio albums to date.
Hopsin’s third studio album Knock Madness debuted at number 132 on the US Billboard 200 after only three days on the market, selling 4,000 copies in the US. According to Nielsen SoundScan, the album climbed to number 76 on the Billboard 200 in its first full week, selling 12,000 additional copies and bringing its total album sales to 16,000 copies. As of April 2015, the album had sold 58,000 copies in the United States.
In a recent social media conversation with fans, Hopsin stated that he has no plans to involve Eminem anytime soon. Now it’s a surprise to know that Hopsin has never contacted Shady Records’ boss for a collaboration. In a recent Q&A session, Hopsin responds to a fan who asked when is he making a song with Eminem. “I haven’t tried to hit him up. I don’t Know,” wrote Hopsin.
The highly awaited collaboration “Leatherface” by Bizarre, Hopsin, Lazarus, and King Gordy appears on Bizarre’s Leatherface Mixtape. The musicians boast about their aggressive characteristics and threaten their opponents with force on the tune.
It was reported that Eminem would appear on the tune as a feature as well, however Bizarre clarified a few days after the release that this was untrue.
