Everlast talks about targeting Eminem’s daughter Hailie during their infamous beef.
House of Pain’s Everlast recently sat down with Talib Kweli and Jasmin Leigh for a new interview on ‘People’s Party‘ where he talks about his whole career including mistakingly name-dropping Eminem‘s daughter Hailie during their infamous feud, which was officially squashed about ten years ago.
According to story, the beef began after Eminem neglected to recognise Everlast as the two crossed each other in the lobby area. Eminem stated that he was in a hurry to do a gig and did not need to “bow down” to the member Of the house of Pain leader. The diss tracks back-and-forth between both the two began at this time.
Em was inspired to release “I Remember” after hearing this sentence. Everlast replied with “Whitey’s Revenge,” which included lyrics that he now regrets. Everlast raps about Hailie and Em’s ex-wife, Kim Mathers, on “Whitey’s Revenge”:
“Instead of worryin’ ‘bout who you should be dissin’
You need to worry ‘bout who your wifey been kissin’
Or if you go to prison while you’re doin’ your bid
I’ll look in on your old lady and do things for your kid
Make her write you lots of letters ‘bout the things that we did
Send you pictures of me chillin’ all up in your crib.”
Everlast, the rapper from House of Pain, had a feud with Eminem in 2000, just as the Detroit MC was on the verge of becoming one of the biggest hop’s names. Eminem made a diss track on Everlast “Girls“.
Em has had the most colourful array of feuds in pop culture history, from fights with Will Smith to Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon. Even ardent Eminem fans will find it difficult to keep up with all of the slights and disses. Don’t be concerned. We’ve put up a neat and tidy chronology of Eminem’s most famous beefs for all of you salty Stans.
Fred Durst of Limp Bizkit and Eminem agreed to collaborate on a song. Eminem intended to include a few digs at Everlast, which he claims Durst was all for. Durst, however, backed out at the last minute and, not long after, publicly chastised Eminem (claiming Everlast could easily beat Eminem up). Eminem retaliated in kind, lashing out at both Durst and Everlast. “Motherf**kers think because I’m in trouble with the law/ That I won’t jaw ‘em/Up my sentence and double it tomorrow.”
He revealed how the whole thing started and said, “Just to see if we get noticed. And we got noticed. I’ve got from B-Real, ‘cause at that moment in time they were managed by Paul Rosenberg, Cypress Hill was. So my brothers were managed by Em’s manager, and they were like ‘Em heard the record and he’s curious if you dissed him’. So he’s taken notice of me all of a sudden. And my answer was ‘Well, what if I say yeah?’ B-Real was like, ‘You know he’s going to come at you’. I was like, ‘Yeah, okay, whatever’. Then I kind of forgot about it. He didn’t come back at me for a couple of weeks. And then he pulled out ‘Quitter’. It was not that scathing. I was like three years older than this guy, so I was laughing it off.”
“But the problem was, he bled over into the alternative market. What I didn’t count on, cause me and this dude weren’t even in the same worlds right now, so this is just fun to me is when it bled into the alternative stations. I don’t think they did it on purpose, but the alternative stations were having their summer festivals and Christmas shows and they would want Eminem to play that. I got the feeling quite a few times that I wasn’t invited cause they wanted Em to play. It was just the facts and the politics of the game, and us being mad at each other might have prevented him from playing.”
He also revealed that he did not know Eminem’s daughter’s name was Hailie and regrets aiming at her in the second diss. “I said something about Hailey’s comet,” said Everlast. “And I didn’t know his daughter’s name was Hailie. He got upset cause he thought I said something about his daughter, and I used that in the second diss, he was about to go to jail and I said I’d look in on your kid, I wouldn’t have done that. As a parent of two daughters, I wouldn’t have done that.”
Before the fight died down, Em released one more diss tune called “Quitter.” Em’s diss track, Quitter, featuring The Dirty Dozen, was released. This song was going to feature Limp Bizkit but they dropped out at the last minute (more info in that feud section) (which can be found below). “F**k you, fat boy, drop the mic, let’s fight…”, Eminem says in response to Everlast’s offer in Whitey’s Revenge to make this a physical confrontation.
Despite their differences, Everlast stated that he had no intention of profiting from the situation. He explained, “To me, it was never about making a record to get paid off him,” he said. “That’s why I never released anything. It was digital. I put it on Napster, the actual one diss record I made.”
Nonetheless, the incident caused him some career challenges. Em’s rising popularity on alternative radio has resulted in his being shut out of several radio shows, according to Everlast. “I really got the feeling quite a few times that I wasn’t getting invited because they wanted Em to play,” he said. “It was just the facts and the politics of the game that we were mad at each other, and perhaps me playing that thing would have kept him from playing.”
The two rappers finally put their differences behind them, with Em telling Vibe magazine in 2010 that he had moved on. “Yeah, me and Everlast had a pretty good beef going back then. We’ve squashed it now, but yeah, we were going after each other for a while. I was a hell of a lot angrier person back then,” he said. Em also shouted out Everlast on 2013’s “Baby,”.
