Eminem’s new video starts speculation of another “MTBMB” project.
Eminem has been in the trends for the past week, first being a target of the ‘Cancel Culture‘ due to his offensive lyrics, and then a response from the Detroit Rapper through his new video. The Gen Z on Tik Tok tried to cancel Eminem for his lyrics, especially on ‘Love The Way You Lie‘ which allegedly promotes violence. Then he released the Animated Lyric Video for his song called “Tone Deaf” which is one of the fan-favourite of Eminem’s latest “MTBMB” deluxe version project.
“Tone Deaf” is another self-produced track on the album, this time with longtime collaborator Luis Resto, the guy behind some of Eminem’s iconic tracks such as “Lose Yourself.” The song’s title is a jab at mumble rappers who can’t jump on a beat without muttering.
Em begins the song by pretending not to hear the person on the other end of the line, a dig at those who have labelled him washed. The song is about five minutes long, and Eminem could easily fill it with three long verses and a hook. He discusses anything from dissing the rap game to boasting about his rhyming abilities.
The cartoon-style music video features detailed artwork reminiscent of “Grand Theft Auto.” The video follows viewers on a police pursuit of the rapper, who is seen committing crimes and engaging in questionable behavior in between car chase scenes. The 5-minute-long piece encapsulates his untouchable fame, with the artist later surrounded by numerous album plaques and awards, all of which are tokens of his success.
“Tone Deaf” states unequivocally that the artist is unconcerned about potential damage to his reputation or “cancel culture.” As he sings, he jokingly blames his alter ego, “Slim Shady,” for being offensive and getting him in trouble.
“I told y’all it ain’t me / It’s my alter ego’s fault.” Fans of Eminem took to social media to defend the rapper and reminisce about all the controversies he has been involved in throughout his career. The hashtag #CancelEminem was quickly flooded with support rather than testimony from those who were offended by the rapper’s lyrics.
The rich artwork in the cartoon-style music video has a “Grand Theft Auto” vibe. Between automobile chase sequences, viewers are taken on a police chase after the rapper, who is seen committing crimes and engaging in questionable behaviors. The singer is then encircled by several album medals and awards, marks of his achievement, in the 5-minute-long piece, which encapsulates his untouchable popularity.
“Tone Deaf” expresses the artist’s complete lack of care for potential damage to his reputation, or “cancel culture.” He raps, “I told y’all it ain’t me / It’s my alter ego’s fault,” sarcastically blaming his alter ego, “Slim Shady,” for being insulting and landing him in trouble. Shortly after the video’s release on March 5, the rapper took to Twitter. “I won’t stop even when my hair turns grey (I’m tone deaf) / Cause they won’t stop till they cancel me,” he said in a clip from the video.
On many tracks, Eminem mentions Nas, and on “Higher,” he mentions the hip-hop trio EPMD. The first-ever Nas x Eminem collaboration, “EPMD 2,” will be released on August 6, 2021, with EPMD also appearing on the track.
“Thought my name was B-side ’cause they flipped over my tape,” Eminem said on the “You Gon’ Learn” track from ‘Music To Be Murdered By.’
Randy Chriz, a long-time Eminem fan, made a video that is jam-packed with allusions to Eminem’s whole career. Are his predictions for the future as reliable as his links to the past? Three bubbles appear in the scene when Eminem puts down his rhymes in his office, which is adorned with his accolades and certification plaques, with the now-recognizable words “Side A,” “Side B,” and “Side C.”
On the song “Zeus” from Music to Be Murdered By – Side B, the companion album to 2020’s Music to Be Murdered By, Eminem apologised to Rihanna for a leaked decade-old diss. On “Zeus,” he raps, “And sincerely, apologies, Rihanna/ For that song that leaked, I’m sorry, Ri/ It wasn’t intended to bring you anguish, I’m sorry, Ri/ It wasn’t meant to cause you grief.”
In reaction to a contentious lyric concerning Chris Brown’s 2009 attack on his then-girlfriend, the apology was issued. The phrase “Things Get Worse” was used in a sample of the song “Things Get Worse.”“I’m not playing, Rihanna, where’d you get the VD at?/ Let me add my two cents/ Of course I side with Chris Brown/ I’d beat a bi— down too/ If she gave my d— an itch
