Eminem’s mother Debbie is dead at 69.
Eminem’s mother Debbie Nelson, who was criticized in rapper’s songs earlier in his career, has passed away at the age of 69 due to advanced lung cancer. She has been battling the cancer for some time, and died last night in St. Joseph, Missouri. The news in also confirmed by Eminem’s rep, Dennis Dennehy, as shared by TMZ. According to TMZ, Debbie’s diagnosis was first revealed in September, and it was revealed that she didn’t have long time to live.
Early in his career, the Detroit rapper criticized his mother for being neglectful, abusive and more in songs like “Cleanin’ Out My Closet.” He was also sued by his own mother for defamation in 1999.
The rapper attempted to reconcile with his mother after 2010s, and dedicated a song to her “Headlights” in 2013, where he showed regret about his past remarks. “Ma, I forgive you, so does Nathan, yo / All you did, all you said, you did your best to raise us both / Foster care, that cross you bear, few may be as heavy as yours / But I love you, Debbie Mathers,” he rapped on the song.

Debbie who previously battled breast cancer, talked to The Village Voice in 2018: “I’m still under doctor’s care, which I probably will be for a while. Basically a lot of the stuff is hereditary, but that happens. Cancers and heart disease and all that, and all the genetic things… I worry about my boys, having high blood pressure and things.”
