Eminem's Marshall Mathers Foundation Donated $25,000 to Help Local Musicians

Marshall Mathers Foundation donates for local musicians.

The year 2020 hasn’t been good for a lot of people due to the COVID-19 pandemic and many local musicians have been hit hard with concerts being canceled and local bars and restaurants being closed. Arts, Beats & Eats Musicians Fund decided to help the struggling musicians as they raised over $431k for nearly 450 of Detroit’s local artists through a series of makeshift concerts and fundraising efforts in August and September. Half of it came from a grant arranged by Oakland County via CARES Act funding and around $83k was raised through GoFundMe. The total also has a contribution from the Detroit Rapper Eminem, whose Marshall Mathers Foundation donated around $25k.

Arts, Beats & Eats director Jon Witz says, “It was incredible to have the opportunity to collaborate with local musicians, to actually get live shows going in 2020 and help people who’ve really had their careers slammed to a halt. There’s definitely a sense of optimism for mid to late summer of 2021. It’s rough right now, but we’re celebrating the chance to do some good, and we have hope for getting live music back in the community next year.

Also, Eminem has donated to the community to fight the pandemic. Eminem and Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey announced Friday they’d be committing $1 million to help people in Detroit, which followed a donation of $3.2 million from a consortium of charities — including Rihanna’s Clara Lionel Foundation and Big Sean’s Sean Anderson Foundation — to help community-based organizations in Detroit and Flint.
