Eminem is taking on Mark Zuckerberg’s Meta in a copyright lawsuit.
Eminem is again in a legal battle as the rapper’s publishing company, Eight Mile Style filed a copyright lawsuit against Mark Zuckerberg’s Meta. As per report by XXL, the company has sent the lawsuit to the U.S. District Court in Michigan, and is seeking $109 million from Meta for using a collection of 243 songs across Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp without their approval.
The lawsuit file states: “Despite their not being licensed, the recordings of the Eight Mile Compositions have been reproduced and synchronized with visual content on Meta’s platforms across millions of videos, which have been viewed billions of times.”
“Meta has also created online tools within their services, such as Original Audio and Reels Remix, which allow and encourage its users to steal Eight Mile Style’s music from another user’s posted audiovisual content and then use it in their own subsequent videos without proper attribution or license, resulting in exponential infringement.”
The $109 million figure includes $150,000 for each songs used without their approval on their social sites. The songs includes some of rapper’s biggest tracks, like “Lose Yourself”, “Houdini”, “The Real Slim Shady”, “Mockingbird”, “Stan”, “Till I Collapse” and more.
The publishing company that controls Eminem’s music catalog is suing Meta for over $109 million.
