According to a recent study by Seatsmart, which revealed Lyrics Intelligence in Popular Music in the past 10 years, Eminem named the Top most Intelligent artist in the Hip-Hop/RnB Artists List of the past decade.
Lyrics in popular songs are incomprehensible. I’m not exaggerating when I say that. As easy as it is to insult the quality of today’s songs, there is some science behind determining how stupid they are.
That is why I set out to address the major issues. Which is the most sophisticated genre? (Be prepared for disappointment.) Which musicians are the most inept? (Be prepared for a pleasant surprise.) Is it possible for a first-grader to read any popular songs? (They certainly can.)
With a Grade level of 3.70, Eminem topped the Song Intelligence Metrics from 2005-2014. He is followed by Nicki Minaj, who got 3.40, and then Macklemore with 3.25-grade level. Drake, who has been the top Hip-Hop artist of the past couple of years, Ranked 4th with a grade level of 3.20. Then comes Kanye West, Chris Brown, and Beyonce, who ranked 5th, 6th, and 7th respectively.
Eminem won the title of bestselling male artist of the 2010s, as per Nielsen Music’s decade-end survey, having faced fierce opposition from young musicians half his age.
Regarding album and song sales only—without taking into account equivalent units from streaming—the 47-year-old rapper was in the lead among male musicians. Behind Adele (23.924 million) and Taylor Swift, Eminem sold the third-most albums over the previous ten years with 13.862 million (22.972 million). Drake (12.098 million) and Justin Bieber (12.098 million) completed the top 5. (10.526 million). With a staggering 63.501 million song sales throughout the decade, Eminem came in as No. 2 behind Swift, who had 75.893 million sales.
Seatsmart also reveals the topmost intelligent artist in other genres like Country, Pop, and Rock, which you can see in the list below.
