Eminem reveals his Recovery Process following the 2007 Drug Overdose.
In a new interview with Men’s Journal Magazine for their September Edition, Eminem talks about his Recovery after the 2007 Drug Overdose. Eminem reveals that, due to his drug addiction, he gained too much weight and then how he started working out in his Recovery process after being sober and discussed his workout routines which made him in the shape again and helped him lose weight.
Artificial sweeteners would have been the last thing on Eminem’s mind a few years ago. He was hooked to a deadly combination of prescription drugs, including Ambien, Valium, and extra-strength Vicodin, for the most of the time between 2002 and 2008. In 2005, he attempted recovery, but after the shooting murder of his best buddy, DeShaun “Proof” Holton, he went into an even deeper spiral the following year. Eminem didn’t resolve to get clean until he nearly died from a methadone overdose in late 2007.
Later, the legendary rapper began exercising after viewing Shaun T’s fitness routines and became so serious about it that he was unable to walk for two days. According to Eminem’s earlier interview, the singer’s drug addiction worsened in 2005, when he began combining pills equivalent to four bags of heroin, and his health deteriorated to the point where he would have died if he hadn’t been taken to the hospital on time.
Eminem started the interview and revealed that he worked out with Dr. Dre a few times, “I’m not sure exactly when I finally got it. In the early days, I just went with the flow: If I could hit a gym, I’d hit a gym. If someone suggested a workout that seemed legit, I might try it, but it wasn’t a priority. Everything has to work around the music. Still, I wanted to stay fit even if I never wanted to get big. I worked out with Dre a few times, and I has to lift the kiddie weights. I’ve always been more into cardio because when I’m performing I have to keep my wind up. It’s never cool to be out of breath anywhere, doing anything, but especially onstage. So I ran and did regular sit-ups and push-ups, For a while, I even got into boxing.”
Eminem then talked about his weight loss Recovery process in 2007 and said, “In 2007, I overdosed on pills, and I went into the Hospital. I was close to 230 pounds. I’m not sure how I got so big, but I have ideas. The Coating on the Vicodin and the Valium I’d been taking for years leaves a hole in your stomach, so to avoid a stomachache, I was constantly eating, and eating badly.”

Eminem revealed more about his recovery process saying, “I got an addict’s brain, and when it came to running, I think I got a little carried away. I became a f**king hamster.” he added “seventeen miles a day on a treadmill. I would get up in the morning, and before I went to the studio, I would run eight and a half miles in about an hour. Then I’d come home and run another eight and a half. I started getting OCD about calories, making sure I burned 2,000 every day. In the end, I got down to about 149 pounds. I ran to the point where I started to get injured. All the constant pounding from the running began to tear up my hip flexors.”
The singer said that he was over 104 kg when he entered rehab in 2007 after overdosing on medications, which left him with a hole in his stomach due to continual eating, but he didn’t lose hope and began jogging 27 kilometres a day on a treadmill, which also helped him sleep. Eminem said, “With the support of an intense fitness programme and calorie restriction, I was able to reduce 37kg and get down to a healthy weight of 67kg.”
Eminem still works out every morning before going to the studio, “Now every morning before I go to the studio, I do the Body Beast workout with free weights, bench, and pull-up bar at home.”
Eminem’s fitness disclosures come just a week after the release of Southpaw, a boxing film with a soundtrack executive produced by the rapper. Eminem stated in a recent Twitter Q&A that he was approached to star in the film at one point, but turned it down in favor of Jake Gyllenhaal.
