Eminem signs Westside Gunn and Conway to Shady Records.
Eminem and Shady Records have announced that they have signed a deal with Griselda Records for both solo and joint projects from Westside Gunn and Conway. Eminem himself welcomes both the respected voices in underground rap. “The style and energy of Griselda Records, Gunn and Conway are infectious,” Eminem said in a Shady Records press release.”We cant’ wait to put them on the platform they have earned and deserve.”
“We’re bringing a new sound to the game, but it’s also reminiscent of the grimey 90’s,” said Griselda founder and recording artist Westside Gunn.”Art is in everything we do…it’s the essence. We’re fusing boom-bap/dark sounds with the hipster cool kid lifestyle. A new lane is being carved.”
Conway steadily earned a reputation as one of the region’s most accomplished rappers, while Gunn worked as his manager until eventually building his own career as an artist and launching Griselda in the early 2000s. Gunn and Conway have attracted the attention of the media and fans alike since breaking onto the scene with the label’s independently published mixtapes and a series of SoundCloud-uploaded recordings, receiving admiration from everyone from DJ Premier and Pete Rock to Anderson. Paak, to Mahershala Ali, the Oscar winner. Griselda’s vinyl releases and label products have sold out in minutes due to a developing cult following, and murals of the two rappers and their album covers have appeared on walls in cities across the United States as well as Australia, France, Romania, and the United Kingdom.
In addition to their separate efforts, Gunn and Conway collaborate as Hall n’ Nash (paying homage to their favorite WWE tag team The Outsiders). They recently finished a collaboration with The Alchemist that will be released soon, and the duo will also be releasing an album under the Shady label. Westside The Hitler Wears Hermes 4 mixtape, which was published in October, was Gunn’s most recent project. Stalley, Conway, Smoke DZA, and others appear on the 11-track project. Conway has been featured on Shade 45’s Tony Touch and Statik Selektah shows and has been steadily releasing tracks for his Devil’s Reject mixtape series.
