Eminem meets Elton John at the Oscars 2020.
Eminem and Elton John reunited for the first time at the 2001 Grammy Awards, and they both performed at this year’s Oscars. Even though they didn’t perform a duet this time, they were able to find each other backstage.
Earlier tonight, Eminem performed his legendary track ‘Lose Yourself‘ at the 92nd Oscar Awards, which won the Academy award way back 18 years ago. After his performance, Eminem also reunited with his friend Elton John backstage. The duo is known for their iconic performance of ‘Stan‘ at the 43rd Annual Grammy Awards way back in 2001.
Eminem took to Twitter to share the backstage picture with Elton John with a caption, “I got to see my Uncle Elton tonight at the Oscars. Congrats on your win too, Sir! @eltonofficial“.
John gave a performance of his Rocketman song “(I’m Gonna) Love Me Again,” which won Best Original Song. Eminem surprised the audience with a performance of “Lose Yourself,” the 2003 Best Original Song winner that he had not performed previously. Isn’t it true that 17 years isn’t too late?
In 2009, the rapper told an interviewer that when he first wanted to get sober, he sought advice from John (who went to rehab in 1990). When John interviewed Eminem for Interview magazine in 2017, the friendship was still going strong. They’re still friends today, as you can see in the photo below. Maybe they’ll perform on stage together again one day.
