The new Eminem song “Higher” is featured in the National Championship promo.
On Monday, Eminem’s “Higher” opened one of the year’s most important sporting events, the NCAA football national championship game between Ohio State and Alabama. Last night, the final of the College Football Playoff National Championship took place between Alabama Crimson Tide and Ohio State Buckeyes, where Alabama side emerged winners. For the promo of the National Championship final event, ESPN Network once again collaborated with Eminem as they used his recent motivational track called “Higher“.
This song is shaping up to be the most popular sporting anthem of 2021, and ESPN is using it to advertise the UFC fight between Conor McGregor and Dustin Poirier. Higher is the ninth track on the deluxe side B edition of Music To Be Murdered By, which was just released. Fans are ecstatic to hear the song being utilized for the event and have expressed their gratitude on social media.
The film includes highlights from the UFC championship as well as a spoof with an appearance by Dana White. The video is a tribute to LL Cool J’s 1991 music video for “Mama Said Knock You Out.”
Along with the music, Eminem also narrated the promo where he praised players of both teams.
He says,
“You know, ‘Bama and the Buckeyes, they’ve been around for a while now.
Not sure they have much left to prove, Yeah they do.
How did they get here? Focus, Formula.
In the season of separation, preparation.
Staring down fate, forging ahead.
They could have surrendered, they took no prisoners instead.
So much strength and pride, power, and self-belief.
And in these teams, both run so deep.
One-shot to get that crown.
But these teams, not being tired.”
“Higher” is a song composed by Em in which he displays his lyrical prowess and discusses his life after stardom, as well as his successful job and bars.
Sly Pyper and Eminem deliver the track’s hook, which expresses Sly Pyper’s uncertainty about his future, as well as Eminem’s own. The rhythm is heavy on the 808s and has a metal feel to it. The song’s official music video debuted in conjunction with the #UFC257 fight between Poirier and McGregor. The video was inspired by and modelled after LL Cool J’s Mama Said Knock You Out music video from 1990.
