Eminem apologizes to Rihanna in “Zeus” for Siding with Chris Brown.
Earlier tonight, Eminem returns with another new project, in form of a full-length Deluxe Version of his album “Music To Be Murdered By” which featured 16 new songs. In one of the tracks called “Zeus” which is assisted by White Gold, Eminem offers an apology to his good friend and collaborator Rihanna.
Last year, a decade-old Eminem verse leaked online, where he was supporting Chris Brown for his 2009 infamous assault on Rihanna. “Let me add my two cents/Of course I side with Chris Brown/I’d beat a bit*h down, too if she gave my d**k an itch now.” raps Eminem in the leaked verse.
Now he decided to apologize to her in his new project, where the lyrics on “Zeus” quotes:
“But, me, long as I re-promise, to be honest
And wholeheartedly, apologies, Rihanna
For that song that leaked, I’m sorry, Ri
It wasn’t meant to cause you grief
Regardless, it was wrong of me,”
“That’s not an excuse, but I’m just saying that there was a phase I was going through with that Relapse record,” Eminem admits to rapping about Chris Brown’s brutal attack on Rihanna. “It was one of those situations where I believe I just said it because it rhymed. Now that I think about it, I should have thought twice.”
The song also includes a jab at Tekashi, with Eminem declaring, “She says I am trash, but she listens to Tekashi”. Further, he gives a “shout out to Beatminerz and T-Minus” followed by an apology to Rihanna. Em expands on many hip-hop listeners’ “wishy-washy” tastes by making a veiled reference to his long-running feud with Machine Gun Kelly. This sentence is also a play on the phrase “machine-washing clothing,” and a “fair weather buddy” is someone who only shows up when the weather is nice. Throughout 2018, the two swapped diss tunes, and Eminem obviously believes he did MGK a favor.
