The song was a huge success in the United States and Europe, and the music video with direction from Lyrical Lemonade’s Cole Bennett currently has over 500 million views on Youtube. As of August 8, 2021, the song has sold more than 5 million copies, being eligible for 5 times platinum in the US.
Eminem beat his own marks set in 2013’s “Rap God” and 2018, when he appeared on Nicki Minaj and Labrinth’s song “Majesty,” rapping at 9.6 and 10.3 syllables per second, respectively.
Last month, in a conversation with Paul Rosenberg, Eminem revealed that Juice WRLD originally sent two hooks for the song. “I remember I had a different hook on it (Godzilla) and I never was really crazy about it,” he said. “I think that I had the verses and that was the kind of the reason we just asked him if he would do the hook. He sent us back two things that were great and the first one was that Monster hook. I was like ‘holy s**t.’”
