Shady Records’ 20th Anniversary project that never got released.
Designer Mike Saputo, who designed the Cover Arts for Eminem’s “Music To Be Murdered By” and a few other projects in the past, revealed that there was a Shady Records 20th Anniversary project last year which Em & his label team was working on but it never came out.
On his Instagram, Mike posted a batch of logos which he made for the leftover project last year. He wrote, “So sometime last year, we started working on some things to celebrate Shady’s 20th. I worked up a ton of logos and other assets for it. Ended up the project never made it to the light of day, unfortunately. So I was left with a whole bunch of stuff I thought came out pretty good, but nowhere to use it. Such is the design life. Here’s a first batch of just some of the stuff I did, there was a ton. I am particularly fond of the Deadpool-esque logo done of Skam’s mummy from SSLP, with the bandages forming an XX.”
Paul Rosenberg, Eminem’s manager, has now clarified everything. “None of this is accurate”, he tweeted. “The art was created for a vinyl box set that was scrapped due to production time”.
In any case, Eminem has no intention of releasing new songs to commemorate his Shady Records label’s 20th anniversary. That is all you need to know. You’re probably thinking to yourself, “Oh, it’s probably for the 21st anniversary.” No. It isn’t the case. Not least since all of the new material conjecture is predicated on some 20th-anniversary logo ideas.
Shady Records and Interscope Records released the double-disc album on November 24, 2014. The album was published to commemorate the label’s 15th anniversary and as the label’s 15th project (excluding Eminem’s solo albums). The collection is divided into two CDs, the first of which includes new songs by Shady Records artists like Slaughterhouse, Bad Meets Evil, D12, and Yelawolf, as well as the label’s creator, Eminem.
It seems a lot like what Eminem did for the label’s 15th anniversary when he recorded a bunch of new music alongside other label artists. Probably because of work on the then-upcoming publication of “Music To Be Murdered By,” or for reasons we will never know, but the project never took off.
