Ed Sheeran Reveals The Work Routine He Learned From Eminem

Ed Sheeran gives an interview to Fergal D’Arcy on TodayFM, talks about Eminem, and more.

Ed Sheeran made his return to the music scene this week as the UK singer dropped his comeback single called “Bad Habits“. For the promo run, he did an interview with Fergal D’Arcy on TodayFM where he talks on various topics including Eminem. Ed Sheeran has worked with the Detroit Rapper Eminem a few times including last year’s “Those Kinda Nights” from “Music To Be Murdered By” album. On the show, Ed revealed the work routine that he learned from the legendary Eminem.

The host mentions how Ed Sheeran treats music as a day-to-day job, to which he says, “In music, I mean especially in the American music industry, it is like a normal thing to work from 6 pm to 6 am. That’s not like a normal schedule at all. The normal schedule is from 9 am to 5 pm. I actually learned it, not to name drop but Eminem does it. Eminem is so strict when he works. I think he gets in at 10 am and he leaves at 5 pm, no matter what. And lunch is when lunch is. You get off at lunch and you eat lunch and you come back and there’s no fluidity. It’s just like this is it and this is the way the way it works and it works man. If you have a family, your family can’t like rely on someone that fluid.

Last year in an interview with Vlad Tv, Akon recalled the same thing when he revealed how he was searching for Eminem in Detroit for a collaboration. “So off the top, I just go in the booth and started freestyling harmonies,” he says. “By the time I get out the booth, Em had already left, I was like where the hell does ni**a go. So I said f**k it, I’m gonna finish the song and let him hear when he get back tomorrow and he can lay his verse to it. The next day, It was about 1 Pm, by the time I got there the song was already laid. Eminem came at Eight o’clock that morning laid his verse and left for lunch so I got there around Lunch break he hadn’t already come so when he came back and said you want to hear it, I said hell yeah. He plays it for me I go Crazy.

I was like ni**a where were you at, he said I went to lunch. I said ni**a you ain’t just order here, he said Nah man I treat this sh*t like a real nine to five. He said I come in early nine o’clock, I leave at five o’clock on the dot every day. I do it I take a lunch break and I come back to five O’clock I’m home. He said I treat this like a real job and I thought about this sh*t I was like damn That’s smart. It was him that made me start saying okay I need to start scheduling it. Nine to five was a little too early for me but I had my schedules like I don’t do late night studios anymore I just do them during the day and I’m out before midnight.

Ed ultimately confirmed the album’s title, Equals or =, in August 2021, after months of teasing. Apart from Collaborations, he has released three other albums with the titles Plus (+), Multiply (x), and Divide ().

Sheeran had teased the album with a chrysalis image, and the album cover itself included butterflies. He explained the visual on Instagram Live while on vacation with his family, saying it represented “fresh life – I’ve been through a lot in the last four years, including getting married, having a kid, and losing a friend.
