The Ebro Darden lists the best rappers in their 40s, features Eminem & Jay-Z.
Ebro Darden, who’s the co-host on the Hot 97-morning show, the Ebro in the Morning, alongside Peter Rosenberg and Laura Stylez, took to Twitter to list the best rappers who are over 40 years old and active in the last 3 years.
This being hip-hop, it begs the question: who has had the most remarkable post-40 run? To answer such a question, strict boundaries and criteria are required, including excluding any material released by an artist before the age of 40 (sorry, Doggystyle; sorry, College Dropout; sorry, Illmatic), and rewarding output, impact, momentum, craftsmanship, and evolution or the ability to keep a familiar sound fresh.
The 30 rapper list is topped by Jay-Z, followed by Eminem on the number 2, Nas on number 3, Killer Mike on fourth, and Em’s fellow rapper and one half of Bad Meets Evil, Royce da 5’9″ on number 5th.
Recently, he added his own list to the discussion, with Jay-Z at the top, followed by the Notorious BIG, Nas, Andre 3000, and KRS-One rounding out his top 5. Not bad, considering the last two slots, 49 and 50, went to 50 Cent and Kanye West, respectively. This will almost certainly compel them to respond sooner rather than later.
In that regard, despite rising to a lofty third place on Ebro’s list yesterday, Joe Budden is nowhere to be seen. But yesterday’s list was a complete shambles since it omitted a single woman. Come on, bruh.
