Doja Cat’s album Planet Her got the first award for Top R&B Album.
Doja Cat took home four accolades. For the second year in a row, she was named top R&B artist and R&B female artist, as well as best R&B album and female artist.
Doja Cat, walked to the stage first, earning the first award on the show, however, fans were left perplexed when the Top Female Artist award was not revealed as expected.
Doja Cat was named Top R&B Artist for her album Planet Her, defeating GIVON, Silk Sonic (Bruno Mars, Anderson.Paak), Summer Walker, and The Weeknd. ‘Wow. We did it! We did it! Thank you guys so much. I want to thank my fans again and yeah, I’m very grateful and I’m excited to see more people win,’ she began. ‘It’s just wonderful to be here tonight with everybody, and, yeah, thank you, mom and, yeah, that’s it,’ she concluded.

She had already won Top R&B Female Artist and Top Viral Song (“Kiss Me More” with SZA) before to the program, bringing her total to four. Glass Animals won twice… sort of. They were voted Top Rock Artist, partly due to the success of their breakout track “Heat Waves,” which has been on the Billboard Hot 100 for nearly a year and eventually reached number one this spring.
