DJ Premier talks about the unreleased Eminem collaboration.
Over a decade ago during the Relapse era, Eminem returned to the music scene after a four-year hiatus from recording, and at around that time, he did a collaboration with legendary DJ Premier on a song called “Keys To The City” but it never released. In 2008, Preemo sat down with HipHopDX where he talked about the song.
“It’s a song that he actually produced, and he wasn’t crazy about the track,” said DJ Premier. “I told him as long as I can strip it clean and do what I do with your vocals, it will be dope,” and the final result according to Premier? It’s dope. Man… Eminem is back. He attacked the track with a new style, just fucking ridiculous, kind of like how he came with ‘The Way I Am’ but even more lyrical like the old Eminem.”
Now recently on Reddit, a fan asks Premier about his collaboration with Eminem, to which he said, “Do not know what Eminem is doing with that song. Heard it once like 10 years ago and never got an update on it.”
DJ Premier and the Detroit rapper finally worked together last year, where they collaborated on the song called “Book of Rhymes“, off Eminem’s deluxe version of “Music To Be Murdered By“.
