Data analysis shows positivity over the years for Eminem’s albums, “Music To Be Murdered By” is the most negative.
A Duke University graduate provides the analysis of Eminem’s 10 studio albums which proves that positivity for his latest album ‘Music To Be Murdered By‘ was the lowest in his catalog. The analyst covers the trends for Eminem’s albums which include audio analysis, changing feature trends with albums, and the positivity of Em’s albums.
He primarily used data from Spotify’s API using multiple endpoints for albums and tracks, stats from Billboard, and a data of Eminem’s swears per studio album. The analysis reveals that over the year’s Em’s tracks became more and more negative and his latest project is the most negative.
“A scale ranging from 0.0 to 1.0 that describes a track’s musical positivity. Recordings with a high valence sound positive (e.g. happy, cheery, euphoric), while tracks with a low valence sound negative (e.g. sad, depressed, angry)”.
While Marshall’s music has never been particularly upbeat, with the greatest index of positivity of 0.66 for “Slim Shady LP” and the rest of his previous albums lying around 0.5, “Music To Be Murdered By” has the lowest score of positivity on this valence scale, with a score of 0.43.
The chart below reveals that, in general, the Positivity increases with an increase in Acousticness, Loudness, Energy, and Danceability of the songs. That makes sense as more acoustic and danceable songs are the effect of pop collaborations whereas louder and more energetic songs tend to sound happier.
