Cordae celebrates winning an Emmy for contribution to Obama’s show.
Cordae is now eying the EGOT status as the rapper celebrates winning his first Emmy Award. The rapper won the honour last year for his contribution to Netflix’s kids series We the People, which was executive produced by Barack and Michelle Obama, along with Kenya Barris.
The North Carolina rapper received a letter from Michelle Obama, who congratulated him for winning the awarrd at last year’s Children’s & Family Emmy Awards show. “I thank God I won my first Emmy ! EGOT is on the way… S/O to the Obamas for the oop,” he wrote in the caption, as he posed with the letter.
“Dear Cordae, Congratulations on your Emmy!,” wrote Michelle in the letter. “We are so proud to have worked with you on We The People. The Emmy is wonderful recognition of your hard work, but more important are the young people who are a little smarter and a little civically minded as a result.”
She added: “Thank you for your hard work, it means a lot to us. We hope we can continue to find ways to work together, whether it’s at Higher Ground, the Obama Foundation, or in your endeavors. All, the best, Michelle Obama.”

Cordae contributed to the series with the solo track called “Taxes”, which was a song about taxes. “That the concept of tax can be a lil’ complicated / You see, taxes pay for roads and interstates / And our local library that they just had to renovate / Not to mention, I grew up on food stamps and Section 8,” he rapped.
