Chuck D praises Eminem for uplifting Detroit Scene.
The legendary Public Enemy and Prophets of Rage’s Chuck D took to Twitter to applaud Eminem, who’s being white himself, has been fighting against whiteness throughout his career. He praised Eminem for how he brought the Detroit scene into the spotlight and has worked with a lot of Black artists from there.
Eminem, on the other hand, has struggled with his whiteness throughout his career and has made a conscious effort to find his place in the art form he masters. Marshall enhanced the Detroit scene, providing it the recognition it deserved and continuously collaborating with Black musicians, according to the famous MC. However, as Chuck D pointed out, institutional racism is far more powerful than one person’s efforts, and Eminem’s voice is frequently dismissed by his own peers.
Chuck D also said that Eminem’s battle against Racism is often ridiculed by most people. Back in 2017, Eminem began the 2017 MTV EMAs with a performance of “Walk On Water,” his new single starring Beyoncé. The seasoned MC then took up the Best Hip Hop Artist award, which was given by Prophets Of Rage performers Chuck D, Tom Morello, and B-Real. The honoree appeared to be taken aback by the distinction.
Ive seen the kid ( @Eminem ) at least make the effort where it was due. Artform and credit wise . However racism is bigger than he is and it’s pouring all over the place. I spend my time curating supporting many underfound & underground heroes. Mainly Black & worldwide but others
