Busta Rhymes tells the crowd to put their phones down during Essence Festival Set.
The 2024 Essence Festival took place this week at Caesars Superdome in New Orleans, which also featured a set from Busta Rhymes. During his performance over the week, the rap legend snapped at the crowd for sitting down and recording on their phones.
“Aye, f–k them camera phones, too. Let’s get back to interacting like humans. Put them weird-a-s devices down,” he said. “I ain’t from that era. Them sh-ts don’t control the soul. F–k your phone.”
“I will point every last one of y’all out until y’all a-ses is up,” he added. “Thirty-three years of doing this sh-t, I ain’t used to ni–as sitting down at my show. I don’t give a f–k. All age groups, get your a-s up now.”
The clip was shared on theneighborhoodtalk, where the people respond to comments by Busta Rhymes. “He has a point but yall gone learn to stop insulting people to prove points. We not in YOUR era anymore big dawg, people paid to see you calm down,” a user wrote. “BUSTA giving serious UNCLE vibes [laughing emojis] He want everyone to put their hands where his eyes can see!!” “Tracy Morgan acting different,” joked another. “This new era is boring. People don’t live in the moment. They just hold a phone to record.”
“Love Busta! What he has to realize is that his main demographic is older as well!!! They like to sit at concerts because they are older. Perfect example when I went to a Janet Jackson concert a few years ago! Most of the audience was sitting and I was like how!!! Then I realized most of the audience was late 40’s or in their 50’s! They not trying to stand for 3hrs dancing!,” states another user. “I barely got videos from Nicki concert cause she told us live in the moment it was worth it !”
