Eminem’s Music can raise athletic performance by up to 10 percent, British Scientists have discovered.
According to a study, listening to Eminem songs can increase athletic performance by 10% due to their emotive and meaningful lyrics. Lose Yourself, Not Afraid, and Without Me, according to Harbury College and University Centre researchers, “substantially” boosted the performance of one athlete who was undertaking hard training and exercise. During his preparations to swim 2,000 miles across the Atlantic from Senegal, West Africa to Natal, Brazil in December, British swimmer Ben Hooper was investigated.
According to a study at Hartpury University Centre in Gloucestershire, England, Music by Detroit Rapper Eminem can help in increasing your athletic performance by up to 10 per cent. Eminem’s Academy Award-winning track “Lose Yourself” topped the list of Top 10 Strong Songs for Optimum Athletic Performance. The track “Not Afraid“, which is off his Grammy Award-winning album Recovery, 2010, is ranked 2 in the list. “Without Me” also made it to the list and finished at Number 9. Their beat, tempo, rhythm and confrontational lyrics were found to have a “high motivational edge” that is particularly effective over long distances. Eminem also Topped the List of Best Workout Music by Billboard in 2014.
Apart from Eminem, Songs by The Script and Swedish House Mafia also had a “Surprisingly Beneficial” effect on perceived levels of fatigue and endurance. Researchers at Hartpury University Centre spent around three months with British Swimmer Ben Hooper to monitor the physiological effects of different music on him ahead of his 2,000-mile Atlantic swim in December. After the research, Results revealed that Ben Hooper perceived levels of effort and fatigue improved, with the athlete feeling less tired and more alert. He also recorded an improvement in his speed of nearly 10 percent above average while listening to these tracks.
After trialling about 100 songs in a swimming pool in Cheltenham and the sea in Florida, they were able to establish the soundtracks that provided the best effects. Other songs on the ‘Soundtrack of Success’ included those by Swedish House Mafia and The Script, in addition to the 15-time Grammy-winning rapper’s music.
Some songs, on the other hand, needed more work from Mr Hooper and had no bearing on his speed. Reggae songs were among the songs that fell into this category, with three by Bob Marley having a detrimental impact. Other songs in the category included Aerosmith’s I Don’t Wanna Miss a Thing and Massive Attack’s Tear Drop.
