Benzino claims to get a call from Michael Jackson regarding Eminem.
Nowadays, the internet is full of fake news, and one such post is shared by Benzino. In the shared picture, it is stated that “When Eminem did a diss on Michael Jackson in 2005. Michael made no comments. He went and bought Eminem’s whole catalogue and then got paid every time Eminem performed,” so if it’s about degrading Eminem, Benzino thought it must be true and posted it without any source.
Benzino and Eminem had a longstanding feud that began in the early 2000s and included public sparring and diss tracks. It is not clear when or how Benzino and Jackson allegedly interacted, but Benzino has previously spoken about his admiration for the late pop icon.
Jackson had long recognized the value of music ownership and had invested in music that he considered worthwhile and profitable. The man purchased The Beatles’ whole catalog, not out of malice, but as a sound investment. Michael Jackson delivered a statement in 2007 announcing his new major purchase:
Benzino also revealed that he got a call from the King of Pop for standing up against Eminem. “So, I was at the Turnberry Hotel in Miami when I got a call from Michael Jackson and we talked for about 45 minutes about Eminem disrespecting him,” wrote Benzino. “He thanked me for standing up to him and spoke about in his words, the devils running the music industry. He mentioned Tommy Mattola and a few others. I will never forget that conversation. I had no idea he bought the catalog.”
Benzino simply forgot about major business news that was publicly disseminated at the time when he was expected to be aware of what was going on. He does, however, recall Michael Jackson on the phone, wasting his time with gossip and complaints. Who knew that this aggressive proprietor of a niche rap medium was a close friend of one of the century’s most influential performers! Even if he was outraged, Michael Jackson would contact Benzino, of all people, to express his thoughts.
However, Kim Osorio, a writer, and producer who successfully sued The Source and Benzino for sexual harassment and was awarded $7.7 million, sort of validated the exchange by stating that she overheard Michae say it.
The statement which is not known if it’s legit, sort of confirmed by one of The Souce Magazine editor Kim Osorio who says, “I remember when u put the phone to my ear and it was Michael Jackson on your phone saying ‘the nerve of this boy.’”
It’s possible for this to happen, as both Eminem and Michael Jackson were not on good terms, ever since the Detroit MC made fun of the king of pop on his music video for “Just Lose It“.
That isn’t to suggest Eminem hasn’t made a dig at Michael Jackson. Slim had a field day with him on 2002’s “Without Me” and 2004’s “Just Lose It.” There was no pop icon greater than Michael Jackson, whose stature was both iconic and tainted by controversy, making him the ideal subject for Slim Shady’s scathing mockery.
The song sparked outrage because the lyrics and music video mocked Michael Jackson, who was facing child molestation charges at the time. Beavis/Cornholio, MC Hammer, Madonna, and others are all mocked in the song. It also prominently parodies Pee-wee Herman, with Eminem dressing up as him in the video and replicating his distinctive yell throughout the chorus.
In the past couple of years, Benzino took shots at Eminem on numerous occasions, trying to ignite their decade-old feud and get a response from the legendary Detroit rapper.
Recently over the weekend, Benzino continued to criticize Eminem on social media, calling him a “scared coward pu**y.” Benzino reportedly posted the address to his eatery in since-deleted tweets, telling his detractors to come on up. Benzino urged Eminem’s followers to fight for him as the crisis worsened.
