Beanie Sigel says Kanye West don’t owe him anything for inventing the “Yeezy” name.
During his recent appearance on REVOLT’S “Drink Champs”, Kanye West reveals the origin of his nickname Yeezy, which made him a billionaire through his business. Ye share details that he owe Beanie Sigel money, as he was the one who gave the name “Yeezy” to him.
“I still owe Beanie [Sigel] money and I been trying to give him his money. He’s gonna get the money,” said Kanye West. N.O.R.E. then asked him for what he owe Beanie Sigel Money. ‘Cause he made the name Yeezy,” reveals Ye. “He used to call me Yeezy. People who took a liking to me in volatile situations would always give me a nickname so it seemed like I was cool like them. My boy Mali who used to sell guns, he called me K-Rock when I would be on 79th and stuff like that.”

Kanye continued, “[Yeezy] was Beanie’s name for me when I was in Baseline [Studios]. Like on some, ‘Oh, that’s Yeezy,’ make him one of us. He let me wear his State Property chain. He really just embraced me. I still owe Beanie money and I’ve been trying to give him this money for a minute. I’m like, ‘This man made up the name.’ It’s like the lady who made the Nike swoosh, Phil Knight [co-founder and former CEO of Nike] made sure she was straight.”

Sigel continued, “You give somebody a fish today, he gon’ eat for the day. If you teach somebody how to fish, he gon’ eat forever. He gon’ teach his family how to fish. I’m not even thinking about a number but I would love to do some business where I can earn some money. ‘Cause I’m an earner. I never was the type to take this for a hand-out.” Sigel concluded with the statement calling him and his relationship with Ye, “all is love.”
After the interview, Beanie Sigel revealed the amount that Kanye West is trying to give him. “I got a call from the motherf–ker the other day, Kanye West,” Beanie reveals. “He said ‘Sig I owe you $50M and 5% stock in Yeezy. And I don’t know if ni–as know, Yeezy’s did $1.7 billion last year.”

Now the Philadelphia artist recently gave an interview to TMZ, where he said that he won’t take money from Kanye as he don’t owe him anything. “I did name him that [Yeezy], but as far as his business mind and where he took it, Kanye worked hard for this. Kanye don’t owe me nothing,” Beanie Sigel told TMZ. “I don’t know if I took an I would take a number. Because you give somebody a fish today he gonna eat for the day. If you teach somebody how of fish he going to eat forever. He [is] going to teach his family out of fish.”
He continues, “So a number, I am not even thinking about a number, But I would love to do some business where I could earn some money because I’m a earner. My mind is sort of like Kanye’s mind. I think outside the box. I got a lot of business ventures that I think if me and Kanye just sit down and add that opportunity to present it to him. It’s some money on the table that I can earn. That’s all love bro, whatever you got on the table man. Let’s sit down, let’s talk. It ain’t a dollar amount that’s on our relationship, ain’t nothing that I’ve done that I wouldn’t do it again, bro. You don’t owe me nothing but love, bro. But let’s get to some money, let’s get to some music, let’s get to some fashion, let’s get to some movies. We can do all that, and the rest will fall in place.”

Beanie’s estimate of Yeezy’s worth looks to be accurate, since the company is expected to produce $1.7 billion in sales in 2020, with Yeezy taking home $191 million in royalties. With long-term relationships with Adidas and Gap, the Yeezy brand looks to be on the rise, and Sigel may be in line for a large payday if Kanye follows through on his reported offer.
