Eminem & Jay-Z appears in the playlist by Barack Obama.
Barack Obama is a huge music enthusiast, and in connection with his biography A Promised Land, he just began an Instagram series that looks back on his administration. Former US President, Barack Obama always shares the music he listens to ahead of some major event, and once again, before the release of his new book ‘A Promise Land,‘ he shares a playlist that featured some memorable songs from his administration.
The legendary Hip-Hop artists Eminem and Jay-Z are the only two rappers to appear on the tracklist. Eminem’s iconic ‘Lose Yourself‘ featured in the list, and Jay-Z’s ‘My 1st Song‘ makes the cut.
Obama mentioned some of his meetings with the musicians on the playlist at the White House. “While reviewing my notes ahead of debates, I’d listen to Jay-Z’s ‘My 1st Song’ or Frank Sinatra’s ‘Luck Be a Lady’. Throughout our time in the White House, Michelle and I invited artists like Stevie Wonder and Gloria Estefan to conduct afternoon workshops with young people before performing an evening show in the East Room,” notes Obama. “And there were all sorts of performances I’ll always remember—like Beyoncé performing ‘At Last’ for our first dance at our inauguration, Paul McCartney serenading Michelle in the East Room with ‘Michelle’ and Bob Dylan flashing me a grin before vanishing after his performance of ‘Times They Are a-Changin’. So in honor of my book coming out tomorrow, I thought I’d put together a playlist with some of those songs. Hope you enjoy it.”
Obama and his wife Michelle signed an exclusive partnership with Spotify in June of last year, announcing that their Higher Ground Productions will produce a series of podcasts.
Michelle Obama launched the first episode of her podcast series The Michelle Obama Podcast on the music and streaming platform in July 2020, a year later. In January, she released her 2020 exercise mix, as well as a collection of tunes that inspired the first season of her podcast in August.
