Alicia Keys and JAY-Z join forces for “Empire State of Mind” performance.
Alicia Keys was among the performers at the 2024 Tony Awards on Sunday night, and she surprised everyone as she brought out JAY-Z for a rare appearance. The two join forces for a performance of their 2009 New York anthem “Empire State of Mind.”
The 2024 Tony Awards were held at the David H. Koch Theater at the Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts in New York City. “Are we in New York City tonight? Are we at the Tony Awards tonight? Had to do something crazy. It’s my hometown,” said Keys before bringing out Hov.
The song was released back in 2009 as part of JAY-Z’s 11th studio album “The Blueprint 3”. The track debuted at #1 on US Billboard Hot 100, and stayed on top for five consecutive weeks, becoming Jay-Z’s first number-one single on the chart as a lead artist.

Just the other day, Alicia Keys and JAY-Z celebrated the song achieving 1 billion streams on Spotify. She hinted at a possible new collaboration, but it turned out to be a teaser for the performance. “1 Dream, 1 Song, 1 Billion streams [prayer hands emojis]. Thank you! We love you. What’s next…. [eyes emoji] [shushing emoji].”
