BET Announces nominees for 2021 Hip Hop Awards.
Next month on October 5th, BET will return with the 2021 Hip Hop Awards and before that, they decided to announce the nominees for the annual event. Megan Thee Stallion and Cardi B lead the nominations as they are featured in nine categories each. The Toronto rap star Drake comes second with nominations in 8 categories, including Hip-Hop Artist of the Year and Song of the year.
According to BET, his album Certified Lover Boy was not nominated for Hip Hop Album of the Year since it missed the deadline for the event in 2021. Donda, Kanye West’s album that came out less than a week before CLB, is likely to have missed the deadline as well.
Tyler, the Creator, and Metro Boomin earned nominations in four categories each. J. Cole, DJ Khaled, 21 Savage, and Pooh Shiesty grab three nods each. Album of the year features projects from the Migos, J. Cole, DJ Khaled, Megan Thee Stallion, Tyler, the Creator, Moneybagg Yo, 21 Savage & Metro Boomin. J. Cole is also in the race of artist of the year with his latest album “The Off-Season.” Lil Nas X also received two nominations for his song “Montero (Call Me by Your Name),” while Tyler received four nominations for his current album Call Me If You Get Lost.
