Royce da 5’9″ talks about “You Gon’ Learn” during “The Allegory” promotion.
When Eminem released “Music To Be Murdered By” in January, the renowned rapper collaborated on the third tune “You Gon’ Learn” alongside Royce Da 5’9″ and newcomer White Gold. Royce took a moment to clarify how the song ended up on Em’s album in the first place. It’s all because to White Gold, he claims. Royce da 5’9″ continues the promo run for his latest album “The Allegory” as he made a visit to SiriusXM for a new interview. On the show, he talked about his collaboration “You Gon’ Learn” with Eminem on “Music To Be Murdered By” where he revealed that White Gold’s hook made Eminem pick the beat.
“He’s the reason why Em picked the beat,” said Royce. “Because I played him and he really loved the hook and he was like…’who, what is that? Who’s that on the hook?’ and I told him he was my guy and he was like ‘that’s crazy.’”
A few weeks back, White Gold spoke about his experience landing a hook on Eminem’s Music To Be Murdered By, a revelation that came as a surprise for the 33-year-old New York songwriter. “It was for Royce initially,” he explained, speaking on the instrumental. “I think it was like six months later, Kino called me. He’s like, “Yeah, bro. Em heard it and was like, ‘Yo, I want the record and I want the dude that’s on there as the hook.’” And that was it. I had to keep the secret for six months or so, man.”
The Allegory has a number of collaborations, ranging from Benny the Butcher to Vince Staples to DJ Premier. This album, on the other hand, is Royce’s vision. He produced every track on the album, which is an impressive effort given that he only gained his first solo producer credit on Eminem’s Music to Be Murdered By LP last month. Even though he is still a rookie producer, he takes delight in doing things himself on this album, despite having access to some of the best production brains on the globe. (With Primo, he’s released two fantastic PRhyme albums.)
In an interview, Royce stated that he’s open for another Bad Meets Evil album with Eminem. “I can’t say that, I can speak for Preme, I don’t speak for Marshall Mathers, but I am open to it [Another Bad Meets Evil Album], i’ll say that,” he says. “I haven’t seen him the whole pandemic. I just talked to him, we haven’t seen each other. I’m due to see him soon, I’ll probably see him within the next couple weeks. I just wanna see him, I want to hug him. And then I think… he’s always working on sh*t, So I wanna hear whatever it is he’s working on. If he’s doing the album like whatever I don’t know what the f**k he’s doing. I wanna hear whatever that is.”
